FOR TODAY (August 17, 2009)...
Outside my window... another warm, sunny day is drawing to a close. It's still light out, but the sun is just about down.
I am thinking... that I wish someone would come by and fold those clothes that are on my couch. When I was in college, my roommate and I had an imaginary housekeeper named Consuela. She wasn't very good at her job. I like to blame things around here on her, too. She makes for a very handy scapegoat :-)
I am thankful for... having My Man back home. This was the second of 2 weekends away at the youth beach retreats that he works on every year. He left the beach last night around midnight and drove through the night to get home around 5 this morning.
From the learning rooms... My Boy began his chemistry co-op class today. I think it's going to be good -- the class is small and the teacher has led this co-op several years. Both my kids began their Tapestry of Grace readings today, too. I'm so happy to back on a routine!
From the kitchen... nice and clean right now, thanks to My Man cleaning up after dinner. We had salmon patties, broccoli salad, and cantaloupe -- something quick after an afternoon trip to the grocery store.
I am wearing... denim capris and an orange knit top.
I am creating... a dress with My Girl. She picked out a pattern and some fabric recently because she's decided she wants to learn to sew. Hopefully we'll finish it this week in time for her to wear it to church Sunday.
I am going... pottery shopping on Saturday! Seagrove, NC, is the pottery capital of the world (or something like that). We used to live near there 10 years ago, and I love to go back every so often. There are over 90 potters and shops there, and it's a real adventure that takes all day to visit just a few. I'm taking along 3 friends from "up north", and I can't wait to show them a quintessential southern country phenomenon. I'll try to remember to take my camera!
I am reading... a couple of blogs I've followed for a few years. The bloggers feel like friends, even though I've never met them. One of them, Our Quiverfull, is an inspiring, touching, and heartbreaking look at the life of Noah: a 3 year old boy with mitochondrial defects that are challenging his very existence. He has been having a particularly bad few weeks, but the faith of his mother is such a testament. The other blog, which I'm not going to name, is usually one of the funniest -- this blog normally brightens every day with real laugh-out-loud stories from the blogger's life. However, the past week or two have hinted at troubles, and her post today seems to confirm that she is having some real problems with her marriage. My heart is breaking for her, too.
I am hearing... My Man and My Boy downstairs shooting at Germans in the World War II Aces game on the wii. Enough to make a momma proud...
Around the house... I have stacks of books that I've listed for sale.
One of my favorite things... starting the new school year and reconnecting with the other moms in our co-op. So many of them are such good friends, and I rarely see them in the summer.
A few plans for the rest of the week... we have an open house Thursday night for our Speech & Debate club, but other than that, nothing other than trying to get settled into our new year's schedule.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing... here's our sweet girls, Princess & Ginger.
